RAYMOND WILLIAM SMITH
Founding President of the European Wushu Federation (1985)
IWUF Vice president, 8th Duan wushu
In 1985 the European Wushu Federation was created and I was elected as President. With the continued co-operation of EWUF Members working together under my leadership, we have continued to grow and develop Wushu and successfully increased the EWUF Membership by over 600%. The EWUF is now the largest Continental Wushu Federation within the IWUF.
Under my leadership we have seen the EWUF established before the Asian or any other Continental Wushu Federation, The EWUF existed 5 years before the IWUF was created. What a fantastic achievement for Wushu outside of Asia.
One of my duties was to push for the introduction of an IWUF Technical Committee and for the inclusion of Sanshou at IWUF events. In recent years we have also seen more development of the traditional section of Wushu with dedicated Traditional Championships.
While my main focus has been on the administration and direction of development within the EWUF I have also contributed in a number of technical fields. This has included the writing of the original qinda rules and with the introduction of the EWUF grading system. It is a great testimony to the cooperation of the EWUF Technical Committee and Members that we have developed the European Wushu Grading System before any other international standard has been set.
I continue to work with my Wushu colleagues for the successful development of standards of professional services and a more streamlined efficient management for Wushu in the EWUF and IWUF.
One of my proudest achievements is to see the growth of Wushu in Europe and the constant improvement in our technical standards, which have been demonstrated by the increasing number of gold medals won by European athletes at IWUF events. Plus the increased number of European countries that are achieving better scores and medals in European and International events

GLEB MUZRUKOV
I was born in1961 in Moscow and begun practicing Martial Arts with Judo while i was 10. When i was 12 i started karate training under Vladimir Tomilov in central school of karate in Moscow. In 1986 i have created the first wushu training school in Moscow and in 1988 we created the USSR Wushu Federation. In 1989, on the invitation of the Minister of Sports of China Mr. Li Menghua i successfully completed the 1st International Wushu coaches training course organized by the Chinese Wushu Association and begun my training under Master Wu Bin, whom i consider to be my teacher for already 24 years. Frequently travelling to China i had a chance to meet and learn from great masters like Li Tianji, Sha Guozheng, Ma Xianda, Cai Longyun, Men Huifeng and many others. During my trips through the country I had the opportunity to learn from masters in Wudang Mountains, In Shaolin, In Guanzhou Foshan and other places. I have trained in changquan, nanquan, taijiquan, bagua, xingyi, wingchun and many other styles to get the complete picture of chinese wushu. My personal ambition was always to prove that europeans can achieve the highest level in Chinese Gongfu (mastery of wushu skills), and thus, since the very beginning of my work in Russia we concentrated on the creation of training centers and of building of National Wushu team. Now this team is considered to be one of the best wushu teams in the World and we have a lot of World and European champions, to mention the few – the amazing Daria Tarassova and 5 times World champion Bozigit Ataev. I have written several teaching books on wushu, including 1 in English: «Wushu basics», published in 2004. In 2010 I received a medal of the Chinese government for «merits in developing friendship» between China and Russia. On european level I was always working on the development of competition standards as Technical Committee chairman since 1991. Taking the opportunity I would like to thank all my long-term friends in wushu who help me a lot with my work dedicated to wushu in Europe: Ray Smith, Paolo Auraujo, Petru Grindeanu, Alexander Raduncev, Oleg Chukanov and many others, as well as to my chinese friends: Li Jie, Wang Xiaoling, Cheng Huikun, Li Yapei, Kang Gewu, Chen Guorong, Yin Yuzhu, Lu Jingming, Yan Ping and Liu Tierong.
